LarmTek 1080P USB webcam with privacy cover (HD264 Webcam USB)

Image
First impressions were mediocre to be honest, the webcam comes in an unassuming box without any kind of a fanfare. I stuck the privacy cover (not because I'm a privacy nut, but it was there so I figured "why not?") on easily (it comes with a peel and stick backing, so super-simple). I have the cover 'sat up' most of the time - but if you're one of these folks who sticks tape over their webcam, this is definitely an 'upgrade'.   Conspiracy Theory GIF from Conspiracy GIFs The lens has a wide-angle to it which gives a different perspective than I was used to from my normal daily-driver (Logitech C920) - and I didn't immediately warm to it, but after using the LarmTek Webcam as my regular camera for a few days, I've really come to like it. I have been using this webcam mainly for Microsoft Teams/Zoom and Google Meet - and feedback from folks on the 'other end' of the call is really positive, reporting a crisp clear image that's goo...

How do I lock my laptop?

Keeping your personal digital data and business, safe is (or, should be) really at the top of your priority list. I am always shocked when (and I promise you, this has happened) people get up from their seat on a train or at a coffee shop and not only leave their laptop behind (WTF!) as they head off to the bathroom, but they leave the device open and unlocked as well! If this is you, you need to stop. Typing Laptop GIF from Typing GIFs Anyone could sit down in front of that machine, and see all sorts of information, access your social media, forward emails and just generally cause mayhem. I probably don't need to point out why this is such a big deal, but GDPR jumps immediately to my mind. You should lock your laptop every time you walk away from it It's really a good practise to get into. Even when you think it's safe - start getting into the habit - when you get up at home to use the toilet, lock your laptop. When you're in a meeting with colleagues and y...

Tech tips for working from home

With a large chunk of the world moving to a ‘working from home’ workforce almost overnight, some of you have asked if there are any tips that I would share with you to make your WFH life better, easier or at least a little less stressful. So in no particular order, here are some things to consider that may help to make your home working 'the business'. Plug your computer directly into your router using a network cable A network (ethernet) cable is probably something you have in that drawer (you know, the one where you keep the batteries and the spare key fob for your car) and when plugged directly into your router/modem can give you a better, faster, more reliable connection. This is because wireless internet (WiFi) is voodoo and no one really understands how it works. Ok, that isn’t entirely true, but WiFi it is more susceptible to interference from external influences, which can absolutely affect the quality, strength and speed of your connection. If your work ...

Chromebook: The device that you've been waiting for

When choosing a laptop for your business, there is an overwhelming array of options for you to choose from. It's generally true to say that each device has a perk to it - whether it's the build quality, battery life, the software it runs or hardware features. But how do you choose which one is right for you and is there one laptop that shines above the rest...one laptop that you should definitely have on your radar? Yes. In my opinion, you should be looking at Chromebooks. These lightweight devices combine all sorts of benefits that make them a very attractive solution - they're not going to be the right fit for everyone though, so I want to take this opportunity to address some of the advantages and highlights to help you decide whether you should be moving over to them. Speed Typing Jim Carrey GIF from Typing GIFs You want a laptop that's super-fast, no lags, not one that takes three minutes to boot up or switch between apps. This is one of the areas that C...

[Podcast] Purposeful Content

When you create content for your business, you're generally looking to achieve a particular goal. Whether that's selling a product, providing your community with information, or talking about a business update. And yet, there are numerous times when we all fall into the trap of posting content that isn't applicable to our business - simply because we feel like we have to talk to our audience on a regular basis. In this episode, Amy and I chat about the ways in which we can all post purposefully, and how this will benefit our overall presence online.

[Podcast] Influencers

Traditionally, Influencers are people who have built a public presence through a reputation in a particular industry. More recently, though, the term 'Influencer' has become more fluid. And more generally relates to anyone who has developed a presence on social media strong enough to (literally) influence their online community. In this episode, Amy and I chat about Influencers, what they are (get ready for two definitions!), and how they've changed the landscape of social media and marketing an individual or brand online.
